New York:South Korean President Lee Jae Myung has reaffirmed his commitment to facilitating peace on the Korean Peninsula by promoting the swift resumption of dialogue between the United States and North Korea.

According to Yonhap News Agency, President Lee expressed his hopes during his address at the 81st United Nations General Assembly. He emphasized his role as a "pacemaker" in the peace process, aiming to restart the stalled discussions between the U.S. and North Korea.

President Lee highlighted the importance of transforming the U.S.-North Korea dialogue into a broader negotiation involving all relevant parties to formally end the Korean War and establish a peace regime. He acknowledged President Donald Trump's recent expressions of interest in dialogue as a critical opportunity for progress.

Lee outlined a phased approach towards the denuclearization of North Korea, beginning with halts and reductions in nuclear and missile capabilities, ultimately aiming for a nuclear-free Korean Peninsula. He also called for the United Nations and its Security Council to play a constructive role in the peace efforts.

In addition to seeking peaceful coexistence with North Korea, President Lee proposed enhancing cooperation in areas such as public health, disaster response, and addressing the climate crisis. He introduced the "K-Initiative," which aims to address challenges posed by artificial intelligence and the conflict in the Strait of Hormuz, while promoting energy supply chain cooperation.

Lee also advocated for U.N. reforms to improve efficiency and resource allocation, supporting the "U.N. 80 Initiative" launched by Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. He emphasized the need for the U.N. Security Council to be more effective and accountable.
