Tokoname:Nagoya: South Korean gamer Kim Young-chan achieved a notable milestone by winning the bronze medal in the Gran Turismo 7 auto racing game contest at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, marking South Korea's first esports medal in this year's competition.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the event took place at Aichi Sky Expo in Tokoname, located approximately 35 kilometers south of Nagoya, Japan. Kim finished third in the Gran Turismo 7 esports final, with Taj Izrin Aiman Taj Madira of Malaysia taking the gold and Naif Abdulhakim S Alfaleh of Saudi Arabia earning the silver.

The Gran Turismo 7 final featured eight competitors racing across three rounds on different circuits with various cars. Kim initially secured pole position for the first race after finishing first in the semifinals but ended up sixth due to a crash on the third lap. In the second race, starting from sixth, he climbed to third by the sixth lap and won the race. However, in the third race, Kim fell to third early on and was unable to catch up with the leader, Taj Madira.

This bronze medal in Gran Turismo 7 is South Korea's inaugural esports medal at the Asian Games, where esports includes 11 gaming events such as Gran Turismo 7 and League of Legends.
