Tokyo:South Korea added three more medals to its tally in the pool at the Asian Games on Wednesday, bringing its total to 12 medals with two days remaining in Tokyo.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Hwang Sun-woo earned a silver medal in the men's 200-meter freestyle at Tokyo Aquatics Centre with a time of 1:44.62, just missing out on a second consecutive gold. The gold medal was claimed by China's Zhang Zhanshuo, who set a new Asian record with a time of 1:43.49, surpassing Hwang's previous record of 1:43.92.

In the women's 100m backstroke, Kim Seung-won secured a bronze medal with a time of 1:00.10, marking her second individual medal in Tokyo after winning bronze in the 50m backstroke earlier in the week. Kim also contributed to South Korea's bronze medal in the mixed 4x100m medley relay, where she led off with the backstroke leg. Her teammates Choi Dong-yeol, An Se-hyeon, and Kim Young-beom completed the relay, setting a new national record time of 3:44.12.

Despite Kim Young-beom's gold in the 50m freestyle on Monday, South Korea has yet to win another gold medal at these games. With the swimming events concluding on Friday and key athlete Kim Woo-min sidelined due to a shoulder injury, South Korea seems unlikely to reach its previous record from three years ago in Hangzhou, China, where it won 22 medals, including six golds.

Meanwhile, China has continued its dominance in swimming, having won 30 gold medals at home in 2023 and now boasting 21 gold medals through Wednesday.
