Seoul:According to Yonhap News Agency, the Board of Audit and Inspection (BAI) has forwarded part of its inspection results regarding the state election watchdog to the special prosecutor team. This action is part of the investigation into the ballot shortages that occurred during the local elections in June.
The BAI carried out a financial audit of the National Election Commission (NEC) from July 6 to August 28 to determine if there were any irregularities that may have led to the unprecedented shortage of voting papers on June 3. These audit results have not yet been disclosed to the public.
The information provided to the independent counsel team consists of six cases related to budget execution for major elections, which include issues such as interference with bidding processes, unfair private contracts, and wrongful inspections. These cases were considered urgent and in need of a swift investigation.
The BAI did not release additional details about the findings. It emphasized the urgency of sharing this data with the special prosecutor team, as they have a limited timeframe of 150 days to complete their investigation, necessitating timely access to all pertinent materials.
