Nagoya:North Korea's Ri Song-gum clinched the gold medal in the lightest weight class in women's weightlifting on Wednesday, marking her country's first gold at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Ri achieved a total lift of 215 kilograms, with 94kg in the snatch and 121kg in the clean and jerk, during the women's 48kg event held at the Nagoya City Trade and Industry Center in Japan.

All three of Ri's liftsthe snatch, clean and jerk, and totalset new world records. India‚s Mirabai Chanu Saikhom took the silver with a total of 198kg, while Luluk Diana Tri Wijayana of Indonesia earned the bronze.

This victory is North Korea's first gold medal at the Asian Games in Japan, adding to their earlier bronze in soft tennis. Ri has now won the lightest weight class at three consecutive Asian Games, continuing her winning streak from the 2018 competition. Additionally, she triumphed at the world championships in both 2024 and 2025.
