New York:South Korean President Lee Jae Myung met with U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to discuss cooperation between South Korea and the United Nations, along with issues concerning the Korean Peninsula.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the meeting took place during President Lee's attendance at the U.N. General Assembly in New York. This is their third in-person meeting since Lee assumed office in June of the previous year.

President Lee emphasized his administration's commitment to fostering peaceful and mutually beneficial coexistence between the two Koreas. He shared his vision that achieving peace without conflict is the most secure path forward. Lee also expressed his expectations for continued communication and collaboration with the United Nations in realizing this vision.

Secretary-General Guterres conveyed "active support" for South Korea's diplomatic policies, including its peace-building efforts on the Korean Peninsula. He pledged to assist in realizing these aims and praised South Korea's constructive contributions to international peace, security, sustainable development, and climate change response.

Guterres also highlighted the growing importance of middle-power countries like South Korea amid increasing global divisions and tensions. President Lee affirmed South Korea's commitment to ensuring the impact of U.N. efforts reaches a broader audience.
