Trump Open to Dialogue with North Korean Leader, No Meeting Set Yet Rubio

Atlanta:U.S. President Donald Trump is open to engaging in talks with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, provided that Pyongyang is willing to address matters important to Washington and its allies. However, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio clarified that no meeting has been scheduled at this time.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Rubio made these remarks at a press conference following the Group of 20 (G20) foreign ministers' meeting in Atlanta. Rubio stated, "I think the president's perspective is, if North Korea and Kim Jong-un is prepared to talk with the United States about issues that are of concern to us and of concern to our allies, like South Korea, he would be open to doing it."

Despite ongoing speculations about a possible resumption of diplomatic engagement between Trump and Kim, Rubio emphasized, "Nothing has been scheduled. I do not have anything to announce in regards to that today."

The comments came after trilateral discussions involving Rubio and his counterparts from South Korea and Japan took place in Atlanta on Friday. During these talks, the diplomats reaffirmed their commitment to the complete denuclearization of North Korea.
