Seoul: Supreme Court Justice nominee Kim Sung-soo pledged Monday to make efforts to help the judiciary keep pace with changing times, highlighting the need to not fall behind societal changes. Kim made the remarks during his parliamentary confirmation hearing at the National Assembly after President Lee Jae Myung earlier referred his nomination to the parliament for approval.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Kim emphasized the importance of aligning the judiciary with the rapid changes occurring in society. "While closely reading the changes of our times, (I) will contribute, even in a small way, so that the judiciary can keep up," Kim stated. He further noted the essential role of the judiciary in protecting people's rights and the necessity for it to evolve alongside societal transformations.

Supreme Court Chief Justice Cho Hee-dae had previously recommended Kim and another judge for the positions of new justices to the top court. However, President Lee Jae Myung forwarded only Kim's nomination to the National Assembly, citing a lack of "procedural completeness" in the recommendation of the other judge. The presidential office's decision underscores the importance placed on ensuring a thorough and complete nomination process.
