Seoul: Samsung Heavy Industries Co. announced on Monday that it has secured a 444.5 billion-won (US$322.5 million) contract to construct two container ships. The South Korean shipbuilder revealed in a regulatory filing that the agreement was made with an undisclosed African client, with the delivery of the vessels expected by December 2028.

According to Yonhap News Agency, this deal adds to Samsung Heavy's successful year, with contracts totaling $6.1 billion for 36 commercial vessels, thus surpassing their annual target of $5.7 billion. Additionally, when including two floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) production, storage, and offloading facilities, the company's cumulative orders for the year have reached $10.5 billion. This figure represents 76 percent of its overall annual target, showcasing Samsung Heavy's strong performance in the global shipbuilding market.
