An Se-young’s Participation in Korea Open Uncertain Amid Rest Concerns

Yeosu:Seoul South Korean badminton fans may miss the opportunity to see their homegrown superstar, An Se-young, compete in her native country next month. The world's top-ranked shuttler expressed uncertainty about her participation in the upcoming tournament on Tuesday.

According to Yonhap News Agency, An Se-young returned home after claiming the women's singles title at the French Open over the weekend, marking her 10th international victory this season. The 24-year-old athlete has achieved an impressive record, winning 50 consecutive matches and suffering only one loss in 67 contests during 2026.

Despite her continued success, An admitted that the demanding schedule leaves little room to savor her achievements fully. She mentioned at Incheon International Airport, "I obviously love winning and I feel really happy in the moment. But I try to forget about those feelings the very next day." She elaborated on the relentless nature of the tournament schedule, saying she rarely has time to enjoy her victories before moving on to the next challenge.

An's recent performances indicate the physical toll of the sport. She appeared to have rolled her right ankle during the Denmark Open final on October 18 and had her right knee taped during the French Open. The Korea Open, the only Badminton World Federation World Tour event in South Korea, is set to begin next Tuesday in Yeosu. Winning this event would allow An to tie her own record for the most international titles in a season.

An emphasized the importance of rest and recovery, stating, "I will take some time off and try to recover. But if I still don't feel great, then I will not force the issue." She plans to monitor her physical condition closely before deciding on her participation in the Korea Open.
