Daegu:At the age of 42 years, 10 months, and 11 days, Choi Hyoung-woo of the Samsung Lions set a series of "oldest" postseason records in the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO). During the Lions' 8-3 win over the Kia Tigers in Game 2 of the second round at Daegu Samsung Lions Park, Choi became the oldest player in KBO history to play and record a hit, an RBI, and a home run in a postseason game.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Choi's solo home run in the bottom of the seventh inning extended the Lions' lead to 8-2. However, Choi expressed that his most memorable moment was an outfield assist when he threw out Harold Castro at second base in the sixth inning after fielding a flyball off the fence. This marked only the fourth time Choi played in left field this year, as he typically serves as the designated hitter.
Choi's performance came after the Lions' manager, Park Jin-man, opted to prioritize offense by starting Choi in left field. The decision followed a 5-1 loss in Game 1, where the Lions managed only two hits. Park expressed confidence in Choi's defensive abilities and his potential to energize the team.
Choi commented on the unexpected success of his outfield assist, stating, "The outfield assist felt 100 times better than the home run." Manager Park praised Choi's play for boosting team morale and plans to continue using him in left field as the series moves to Gwangju-Kia Champions Field.
The Lions' offense was further bolstered by Koo Ja-wook's go-ahead single and Lewin Diaz's two-run homer in a four-run fourth inning. Meanwhile, Tigers manager Lee Bum-ho acknowledged the effectiveness of Lions' starter Ariel Jurado and expressed a need to focus on upcoming games after securing one win on the road.
