Kim Joo-hyung Wins Men’s Golf Gold at Asian Games, Contributes to South Korea’s Team Silver

Kasugai:PGA Tour winner Kim Joo-hyung clinched the men's golf gold medal at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, leading South Korea to secure a silver medal in the team event.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Kim delivered an impressive performance with a final round score of six-under 64 at the Kasugai Country Club East Course. This achievement brought his total to 18-under 262, earning him the top spot in the individual competition.

The battle for the silver and bronze medals went into a playoff after three players tied for second place. Kazuki Higa of Japan secured the silver, while Sadom Kaewkanjana edged out Ding Wenyi of China for the bronze.

Kim's gold medal victory also grants him an exemption from South Korea's mandatory military service, a privilege afforded to athletes who win gold at the Asian Games. This exemption has been previously enjoyed by other prominent athletes, such as PGA Tour veterans Kim Si-woo and Im Sung-jae.

In the team standings, South Korea finished at 26-under, taking the silver medal behind China. The team event scored the two best results from each country three players after every round.

Kim began the final round with a narrow one-stroke lead over Higa and Wang Hei-Hsuan of Chinese Taipei. Despite early challenges, Kim maintained his lead, notably with a birdie at the fourth after a difficult chip and an eagle at the 13th hole, which solidified his position with a four-stroke lead.

Despite a bogey on the 17th that reduced his lead to three strokes, Kim confidently parred the final hole to secure his victory, celebrating exuberantly on the green as he clinched the gold.
