Toyota:Eom Ji-sung scored the decisive goal for South Korea in the men's football tournament of the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, clinching a 1-0 victory over Japan in the gold medal match at Toyota Stadium.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the Swansea City winger had previously initiated South Korea's campaign with the tournament's opening goal against Qatar. Eom's performance was impressive throughout, achieving a hat trick in the group stage and providing four assists in subsequent matches.
Men's football at the Asian Games is typically restricted to players aged 23 or younger, but teams can include up to three over-age players. Eom, at 24, was selected for his experience and skill, contributing significantly to the team's success as an over-age player under head coach Lee Min-sung.
Eom's strong form carried over from his club performances in England, where he had scored and assisted in two consecutive matches prior to the Asian Games. His consistent display throughout the tournament justified his selection and highlighted his role as a pivotal player in South Korea's gold medal triumph.
