Kia Tigers Triumph in KBO Playoff Opener with Kim Do-yeong’s Home Run Heroics

Gwangju:Kia Tigers manager Lee Bum-ho took a moment to appreciate his star player on Saturday after MVP-winning slugger Kim Do-yeong hit two home runs, leading the team to victory over the LG Twins in the opening game of their Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) postseason series.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Kim was instrumental in the Tigers' 5-1 win in Game 1 of the best-of-five series at Gwangju-Kia Champions Field. He broke a 1-1 tie with a solo home run in the fourth inning and extended the lead with a two-run homer in the eighth. Additionally, Kim contributed with a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning, bringing his RBI total to four for the game.

Lee praised Kim's performance, highlighting his ability to change the course of the game singlehandedly. "What else can I say? He is incredible," Lee remarked, noting Kim's league-leading 45 home runs during the regular season. "The first game in any postseason series is always important and I am quite satisfied with the way we performed today as a team."

LG Twins manager Youm Kyoung-youb acknowledged the challenge of containing Kim, admitting that despite their preparation, his pitchers failed to execute. "Kim Do-yeong did not miss on those mistakes. And those were not easy pitches to hit homers off, and Do-yeong still went deep. He is a great player and I tip my cap to him," Youm stated.

The Twins missed key opportunities, notably in the sixth inning with two runners on base and no outs, but failed to capitalize. "Our big bats had a few at-bats with runners in scoring position and we just didn't capitalize on them," Youm explained. "That is just how baseball goes sometimes. If you don't score when you are supposed to, then you concede the momentum to the other team."
