An Se-young Secures Ninth Title of the Season at Denmark Open

Odense:Reigning world badminton champion An Se-young triumphed at the Denmark Open, capturing her ninth international title of the season. An, who holds the world No. 1 ranking, defeated third-ranked Akane Yamaguchi with a score of 2-1 (21-23, 21-14, 21-18) at the SJF Bank Arena.

According to Yonhap News Agency, this victory marked An's second consecutive Denmark Open title and extended her winning streak against Yamaguchi to ten matches. Her record this year stands impressively at 61 wins and just one loss out of 62 matches.

In addition to her Denmark Open victory, An has secured six wins on the Badminton World Federation World Tour, claimed the Asian Championships gold medal in April, and the world title in August. Recently, she also won the Asian Games gold medal, defeating Yamaguchi, thus becoming the first player to win consecutive women's singles gold medals.

An's sole defeat this year came in the final of the All England Open in March. In Sunday's match, she initially trailed 6-4 in the first game but managed to score six consecutive points. Despite this effort, Yamaguchi fought back to win the first game 23-21.

In the second game, Yamaguchi led 13-11, but An responded with a seven-point streak, allowing her opponent only one more point to finish the game 21-14. The third game saw An trailing 11-5 after a brief pause for a foot check. Nonetheless, she quickly turned the situation around, taking a 16-12 lead and ultimately securing the match despite Yamaguchi's efforts to close the gap.
