Wednesday’s Stock Market Operation Uncertain Amid Martial Law Declaration.

Seoul: South Korea's bourse operator announced on Wednesday that it remains undecided whether the stock markets will operate as scheduled after President Yoon Suk Yeol's unexpected declaration of emergency martial law. According to Yonhap News Agency, President Yoon made the declaration in an unanticipated late-night address on Tuesday, alleging that the opposition has taken control of the parliament and is incapacitating the government's functions through "anti-state activities." This sudden political move has cast uncertainty on the usual operations of the stock markets. A Korea Exchange official stated, "It is yet to be decided if the stock markets will be opened Wednesday." The uncertainty looms over the benchmark KOSPI and the tech-heavy KOSDAQ, which are typically slated to open at 9 a.m. and close at 3:30 p.m. Investors and market participants are closely monitoring the situation for further announcements from the authorities regarding the market operations.
