Globally Popular ‘Baby Shark’ to Introduce Younger Sibling in Expanded Storyline

Seoul: The chief executive of South Korean kids content brand The Pinkfong Company, which created the globally popular "Baby Shark" video, has announced plans to expand the video's storyline by introducing the shark family's younger sibling and friends.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Kim Min-seok, chief executive of the Pinkfong Company, revealed in an interview that the company intends to let children enjoy "Baby Shark" across various platforms, including animation, movies, and performances. "Over the past ten years or so, we have maintained the 'Baby Shark' family with mother, father, grandmother, and grandfather," Kim stated.

During the first half of next year, the introduction of a younger sibling and friends of 'Baby Shark' will mark a new chapter in the storyline, Kim explained. The children's song, known for its catchy refrain, has captured the hearts of young audiences worldwide with its simple melody and easy-to-follow chorus. The "Baby Shark Dance" video has amassed approximately 17 billion views on YouTube, holding the title of the most-viewed video on the platform globally.

Despite the song's global success, Kim emphasized the company's commitment to evolving the storyline and characters to meet changing audience needs. The Pinkfong Company aims to "maintain the essential appeal of our intellectual property, but continue to develop characters and content in line with changing times and user preferences," Kim noted.

Additionally, Kim disclosed plans to unveil new content utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) by the end of this year or early next year. AI is envisioned as a new interface between characters and consumers, extending beyond its current role in content creation.
