Trump’s Financial Disclosure Highlights Coupang Stock Trades Amid Seoul-Washington Tensions

Washington: U.S. President Donald Trump made two trades in Coupang Inc. shares in June through his money managers, a financial disclosure report showed Friday, amid lingering tensions between Seoul and Washington over South Korea's regulatory response to a massive data breach involving the U.S.-listed e-commerce giant. According to Yonhap News Agency, the report released on Aug. 22, and filed with the U.S. Office of Government Ethics, showed that Trump sold Coupang shares worth between US$1,001 and $15,000 on June 3, and purchased shares worth between $15,001 and $50,000 on June 24. This activity is part of a series of transactions, as Trump's earlier financial reports this year indicated he made 18 trades in Coupang shares from Oct. 9 to May 22 through two investment accounts. His stock transactions have drawn significant attention as U.S. criticism has grown over South Korean authorities' handling of the Coupang data breach. In July, the House Judiciary Committee issued an interim staff report accusing th e South Korean government of "discriminatory attacks" against Coupang and other American-owned businesses, asserting that Coupang has been a "consistent target." Following the committee report, a White House official expressed concern, stating that Coupang was being "singled out" by South Korean President Lee Jae Myung's administration. The official highlighted concerns over what was described as the "discriminatory" targeting of the company.
