Vice Finance Minister Calls for Vigilance Amid Potential Impacts of Second Trump Term.

Seoul: First Vice Finance Minister Kim Beom-seok has urged ministry officials stationed overseas to closely monitor international policy shifts in light of Donald Trump's second presidential term. This call to action was made on Monday during a video conference with finance ministry officials positioned at South Korean embassies in strategic nations, including the United States, Britain, China, Japan, the European Union, Germany, and Russia. According to Yonhap News Agency, Kim emphasized the necessity of mitigating the wide-ranging impacts that could arise from the new U.S. administration. He stressed the importance of a proactive response across the government to minimize economic uncertainties. Kim noted that the policy changes under Trump's leadership could present both risks and opportunities for South Korean businesses operating on a global scale. During the conference, Kim urged officials to concentrate on monitoring policy developments in their designated countries and to maintain close collaboratio n with the ministry as a unified team. This approach is part of the Seoul government's strategy to address potential economic challenges stemming from Trump's reelection. The South Korean government has recognized that global financial markets are under heightened risk following Trump's return to power, with the U.S. dollar and bond yields reaching multimonth highs. Given South Korea's trade-dependent economy, there are concerns about the potential impact of Trump's proposed sweeping tariffs on all foreign-made goods entering the U.S. Such measures could present significant economic hurdles for South Korea.
