LG Twins’ Postseason Exit Marks End of Jamsil Baseball Stadium Era

Seoul:As the defending South Korean baseball champion LG Twins exited early in the postseason Tuesday night, their departure also marked the final chapter for their iconic home, Jamsil Baseball Stadium.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the LG Twins suffered a 13-1 defeat against the Kia Tigers in Game 3 of the first round of the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) postseason. This loss completed a three-game sweep by the Tigers in the best-of-five series, ending the Twins' quest for a consecutive Korean Series title.

The game was the last official event at Jamsil Baseball Stadium, which has been a significant venue since its opening in 1982. It will be demolished to make way for a new dome. Jamsil has hosted many memorable moments, including the Twins' 2023 Korean Series championship win, their first since 1994. The Twins also won the 2025 title, although the decisive game occurred in Daejeon against the Hanwha Eagles.

During the game, the Tigers secured a commanding lead with a seven-run second inning, holding a 9-1 advantage by the sixth inning. This led many Twins fans to leave the stadium early. The Twins were outscored 24-5 over the series, managing only one home run compared to the Tigers' seven.

Twins' representative Youm acknowledged the team's shortcomings, stating, "Throughout the series, we were badly outperformed by the Tigers at the plate, and we just made things difficult on ourselves." He emphasized the need for players to reflect on their performance and strive for improvement.

The Twins' elimination means the KBO has not seen a repeat champion since the 2015-2016 Doosan Bears. Reflecting on past failures, Youm highlighted the need for players to develop a stronger sense of urgency backed by hard work for the upcoming season.
