Kim Do-yeong Powers Kia Tigers with Grand Slam, Wins KBO Series MVP

Seoul:Kia Tigers star Kim Do-yeong delivered a grand slam to lead his team to a decisive 13-1 victory over the LG Twins in Game 3 of the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) postseason series. This victory secured a three-game sweep for the Tigers in the best-of-five series.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Kim's grand slam came during a pivotal second inning, where the Tigers scored seven runs. Kim's performance in the series, which included three home runs and eight RBIs over three games, earned him the series MVP award with 84 out of 97 votes.

The Tigers had established a 3-0 lead before Kim's grand slam, with Na Sung-bum opening the inning with a solo home run. The Twins' pitcher, Carlos Carrasco, struggled and was replaced after Park Jung-woo's RBI single. Reliever Jon Kennedy allowed another run-scoring single before Kim's grand slam extended the lead. Kim's 145-meter home run tied the record for the longest postseason home run since 2000. At 23 years and 18 days old, he became the youngest player to hit a grand slam in a KBO postseason game.

Despite not hitting again in the game, Kim's grand slam was crucial in securing the victory. Having led the regular season with a personal best of 45 home runs, Kim is a strong contender for this year's MVP award. The Tigers are now three wins away from the Korean Series.

Kim expressed his gratitude to his coaches and teammates, stating, "This was a home run that the team needed, and I felt pretty good about it. I am surrounded by so many great players." He also acknowledged the significance of winning the series MVP, saying, "I never imagined I would be able to win this. I want to keep playing well going forward so that I can live up to this MVP award."
