Washington: Incoming U.S. President Donald Trump said Friday he has ordered his inauguration address to be delivered indoors in the Capitol Rotunda in Washington next week due to forecasts of frigid temperatures.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Trump announced in a social media post that his swearing-in event will take place inside the rotunda on Monday. Capital One Arena, an indoor site in the U.S. capital, will open for live viewing of the event. Trump stated that the decision to move indoors was influenced by weather forecasts predicting dangerously low temperatures. He compared the situation to Ronald Reagan's 1985 inauguration, which was also moved indoors due to cold weather.
Trump emphasized the importance of safety for law enforcement, first responders, and attendees, noting that the weather conditions could pose significant risks. He expressed his commitment to ensuring the well-being of all involved in the inauguration process.
Despite the change in venue for the inauguration address, Trump assured that other scheduled events, such as the "Victory Rally" at Capital One Arena on Sunday and the inaugural balls on Monday evening, would proceed as planned.
Additionally, Trump's inaugural committee confirmed the Bibles to be used during the swearing-in ceremony. Trump will use a Bible given to him by his mother in 1955 and the Lincoln Bible from the Library of Congress collections. Vice President-elect J.D. Vance will use a family Bible that belonged to his maternal great-grandmother.
