Seoul: The foreign ministry has issued a special travel advisory for four provinces in Nepal following massive flooding and landslides, raising concerns over additional disasters in the region. This advisory came into effect at 9 p.m. on Friday for Bagmati, Gandaki, Koshi, and Lumbini provinces. A Level 1 travel advisory, which recommends increased caution, remains for the rest of Nepal.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the ministry has advised South Korean nationals intending to visit the affected areas to cancel or postpone their trips. Those already present in the regions have been urged to prioritize their safety and relocate to safer areas unless there are urgent reasons to stay. The ministry emphasized the ongoing monitoring of the flood situation in Nepal and mentioned that adjustments to the travel advisories might be necessary.

The north-central Himalayan region of Nepal was struck by massive flooding and landslides on Wednesday, leading to extensive damage and resulting in hundreds of casualties and missing persons. Nine South Korean nationals working at a hydropower plant construction site in the Rasuwa district remain missing, while 10 other Koreans who were isolated in the affected area have been safely relocated, as reported by the ministry.

Furthermore, Nepalese authorities have cautioned about the risk of further flooding. Rising water levels in a newly formed lake pose a threat of overflow, prompting authorities to advise residents and rescue workers in downstream areas to move to safety.
