Suspect Blames Hospital Frustration for Incheon Stabbing Spree

Incheon:The suspect in the recent stabbing spree in Incheon has attributed his actions to frustration with his hospital treatment, as reported by police on Wednesday. The 59-year-old man made this statement to investigators during questioning, following his attack on random individuals at a shopping complex in the city, located west of Seoul. The incident left eight people injured, including one person who remains unconscious.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the suspect informed police that he did not target specific individuals but chose those who appeared weaker, insisting he had no intention to kill. He had been receiving treatment for athlete's foot at a local hospital but was dissatisfied with the lack of improvement in his condition, leading him to protest in front of the hospital in August.

The hospital had reported him to the police for possessing a weapon during his protest, leading to his booking last month and questioning last week. He expressed dissatisfaction with both the hospital and the subsequent police investigation initiated by the hospital's report.

Police have engaged three criminal profilers to further analyze the suspect's motives. In addition to the eight injured, two other individuals were attacked but escaped unharmed; one was saved by a cigarette pack in their coat pocket, and the other suffered only torn clothing.

The suspect allegedly wielded knives in both hands while moving between floors on an escalator, before being subdued by shoppers who threw chairs at him. He was found with a large quantity of drugs, which police believe to be prescribed psychiatric medication. A preliminary drug test returned negative results.

Police intend to apply for an arrest warrant following the completion of their interrogation.
