Seoul:President Lee Jae Myung on Wednesday appointed Lim Kwang-hyun, the head of the National Tax Service, as his new chief of staff, according to his office.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the outgoing chief of staff, Kang Hoon-sik, announced Lim's appointment. This comes weeks after Kang offered to resign amid declining approval ratings for President Lee and controversy over two Cabinet nominees who eventually withdrew.
Kang described Lim as a former economic official-turned-politician with extensive administrative experience and political insight. He highlighted Lim's experience in both the National Assembly and the government, emphasizing his capability to incorporate the people's voices into state affairs and enhance cooperation between the ruling party, government, and Cheong Wa Dae.
Lim, who previously served in various roles at the National Tax Service, was elected as a lawmaker for the ruling Democratic Party by proportional representation in 2024. He resigned from his parliamentary position to assume the role of NTS chief in 2025.
Standing alongside Kang, Lim expressed his commitment to building on the administration's achievements and making positive changes in people's lives. He stated his dedication to overseeing the work at Cheong Wa Dae and improving citizens' livelihoods.
