Seoul:The South Korean won experienced a slight increase against the U.S. dollar on Tuesday, even as the U.S. currency demonstrated broad strength due to reduced expectations of a Federal Reserve rate hike.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the won was quoted at 1,343.6 per dollar by 3:30 p.m., showing an increase of 0.4 won compared to the previous session's close. This change comes amid reports of slower-than-expected growth in the U.S. job market for September, which has dampened expectations for the Federal Reserve to tighten its monetary policy this month.
Despite this, attention remains on the rising U.S. Treasury yields, with the 10-year yield surpassing 5.34 percent, reaching its highest level since April 2002. Additionally, foreign investors sold a net 1.7 trillion won, equivalent to approximately US$1.27 billion, in local stocks during the latest regular trading session. The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index fell by 0.89 percent, closing at 6,941.39.
