South Korea Secures Two Silver Medals in Asian Games Boxing

Nishio:South Korea earned two silver medals on the final day of the boxing competition at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Jang Dong-hwan won silver after losing to Abdumalik Khalokov of Uzbekistan in the men's 60-kilogram final at Nishio Gymnasium, located about 40 kilometers south of Nagoya. Shortly after, Kim Min-seong was defeated by Ankush Panghal of India in the men's 80kg division final.

Jang's match concluded with a unanimous decision in favor of Khalokov, with judges scoring 5-0 (30-27, 30-27, 30-27, 29-28, 30-27) for the Uzbek fighter. Khalokov, who is the reigning Olympic champion and holds the 2025 world title, secured his second consecutive Asian Games gold medal. Although Jang had a strong start, earning favor from one of the judges in the first round, Khalokov dominated the subsequent rounds, preventing Jang from becoming the first Asian Games boxing champion from South Korea since 2014.

In a subsequent bout, Kim faced Panghal but was defeated with a score of 4-0 (30-26, 28-28, 30-26, 30-26, 30-26). Despite showing potential in the first and third rounds, where he impressed one judge each time, Kim could not overcome Panghal's performance. Panghal's victory made him the first Indian boxer to win an Asiad gold.
