Pyongyang:Kim Yo-jong, the influential sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, has once again denied responsibility for the recent mine explosion in the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ), while also mocking South Korea's attempts to reduce tensions.
According to Yonhap News Agency, in a statement released by the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), Kim Yo-jong reiterated her earlier denial of the South Korean military's findings, which held the North accountable for the explosion that injured three South Korean soldiers.
South Korea's military has called on North Korea to apologize and cease fortification activities along the border. Kim Yo-jong, however, stated that North Korea aims to "cut off the relationship forever" with the South, emphasizing a desire to disengage completely.
Despite these tensions, South Korean President Lee Jae Myung has pledged to continue seeking practical ways to de-escalate military tensions. Speaking at a ceremony for the 78th Armed Forces Day, President Lee emphasized the importance of both Koreas finding a path to mutual trust and peace on the Korean Peninsula.
Kim Yo-jong dismissed President Lee's remarks as a "farce," criticizing those involved in the process as deserving of a "citation" for their roles.
