South Korea Claims Bronze in Women’s Football at Asian Games

Fukuroi:Shizuoka South Korea defeated China 1-0 to secure the bronze medal in women's football at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games. The match took place at Shizuoka Stadium Ecopa in Fukuroi, a venue located approximately 100 kilometers east of Nagoya, the main host city.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Noh Jin-young's early header in the fourth minute, assisted by Choe Yu-ri after a free kick, was the decisive goal for South Korea. This victory marked South Korea's first triumph over China in 11 years, concluding a series of five draws and six losses against them. The bronze medal is South Korea's fourth in the history of the Asian Games and their first since 2018.

Throughout the game, South Korea's defense was robust, preventing China from having a shot on target in the first half. Goalkeeper Kim Kyeong-hee made a critical save against Shao Ziqin early in the second half, ensuring South Korea maintained their lead.

Head coach Shin Sang-woo expressed gratitude to his players for their efforts in securing the bronze, acknowledging that while they did not achieve their ultimate goal of winning gold, the experience against top teams like North Korea and Japan would be invaluable for the upcoming FIFA Women's World Cup. South Korea played to a 1-1 draw against North Korea during the group stage but was defeated 2-0 by Japan in the semifinals.

Noh Jin-young, the scorer of the match's only goal, expressed her satisfaction with winning a medal and hoped the experience and confidence gained from the tournament would benefit the team in the World Cup next year.
