Nagoya:South Korea achieved significant success on the penultimate day of the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games by winning six gold medals. The men's football team notably secured the country's fourth consecutive Asian Games title. According to Yonhap News Agency, South Korea is set to conclude the Games with 39 gold medals, trailing behind China with 169 and Japan with 83. The country's chances of adding another medal are slim, as only one equestrian event remains on Sunday. Archer Lee Woo-seok became South Korea's fifth double gold medalist of the Games by winning the men's individual recurve event, adding to his previous men's team gold. Meanwhile, Oh Ye-jin secured a silver in the women's individual recurve, marking the first time South Korea did not claim a women's recurve archery gold. In the archery competition, South Korea secured three golds, three silvers, and three bronzes, tying with India in total medals but finishing with two fewer golds. Notably, 15-year-old sailor Choi Ji-un became the country's you ngest gold medalist this year by winning the boys' dinghy title. PGA Tour star Kim Joo-hyung claimed the men's golf gold, finishing three shots ahead of Japan's Kazuki Higa with a six-under 64 in the final round. In taekwondo, Song Da-bin earned South Korea's first kyorugi gold, defeating China's Mu Wenzhe in the women's +67 kg category. Although South Korea fielded four taekwondo athletes on Saturday, only Song Da-bin secured gold. Kim Yu-jin, the 2024 Olympic champion, was eliminated in the women's 57 kg quarterfinals, while Kang Sang-hyun and Mun Jin-ho earned bronze medals in their respective events. Climber Seo Chae-hyun captured her first Asian Games gold in the women's lead event, being the only finalist to achieve the "Top" score. Lee Do-hyun added a bronze in the men's lead climbing event. The men's football team capped Saturday's events with a gold medal, thanks to Eom Ji-sung's decisive goal in the 61st minute. Despite these achievements, South Korea is likely to fall short of its initial goal of at least 40 gold medals as the Games conclude with Sunday's closing ceremony.
