South Korea and Norway Explore Defense and Technology Collaboration

Seoul:Senior diplomats from South Korea and Norway held discussions on Wednesday to explore ways to expand cooperation in defense, technology, and other fields, aiming to strengthen bilateral ties, as reported by Seoul's foreign ministry.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Chung Eui-hye, South Korea's deputy foreign minister for political affairs, met with Norwegian Deputy Foreign Minister Andreas Motzfeldt Kravik in Seoul. They exchanged views on several international issues, including the situations on the Korean Peninsula, the Middle East, and Ukraine.

Chung expressed optimism for expanded cooperation in defense, fisheries, and advanced technology. She also called for Norway's continued support for South Korean companies engaged in infrastructure projects in Norway. Highlighting the historical ties between the two nations, Chung noted Norway's medical support during the Korean War and emphasized the importance of ongoing high-level exchanges, such as the summit between their leaders during the NATO summit in July.

Kravik acknowledged the growing closeness of bilateral relations in recent years and expressed hope for a visit by Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store to South Korea at a convenient time. He also highlighted the potential for stronger cooperation on global issues like artificial intelligence, multilateralism, and the rules-based international order.

In a release, the ministry stated that both sides shared perspectives on major international and regional issues and agreed to enhance cooperation as trusted partners amid increasing geopolitical uncertainties.
