Ulsan: SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won is set to visit the construction site of an artificial intelligence (AI) data center in Ulsan's national industrial complex on Friday, as reported by industry sources. The center, currently under construction, is a collaborative project between SK Group and Amazon Web Services (AWS), with an estimated cost of 7 trillion won (US$5.2 billion).

According to Yonhap News Agency, the groundbreaking for the center took place in August of last year, with plans for the facility to be operational by the latter half of 2027. The data center is being designed to support high-performance computing through the use of graphics processing units (GPUs) and features hybrid cooling systems aimed at enhancing performance and efficiency beyond that of traditional data centers.

During his visit, Chey and other participants are expected to tour the site and assess the progress of the project. The development of this AI-focused data center is part of SK Group's strategy to transform the Ulsan facility into a hub for AI companies. The group aims to leverage this project to create jobs, drive manufacturing innovation, and establish a new growth engine for the industrial city.
