Seoul Rivals Prepare for Final Showdown at Historic Stadium

Seoul:As the LG Twins and the Doosan Bears prepared for their last regular-season clash at the iconic Jamsil Baseball Stadium in Seoul, managers of both teams took a moment to reflect on their experiences at the venue.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the LG Twins were set to host the Doosan Bears on Wednesday at Jamsil, which has been shared by the two clubs since 1985. The stadium will be demolished after this Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) season to make way for a new domed ballpark. Both teams might face each other again in the upcoming postseason, with their standings in the remaining games determining potential home-field advantage.

Twins manager Youm Kyoung-youb emphasized the importance of the game, labeling it as a "must-win" for his team. The Twins, who led the standings in early July, had fallen to fourth place, with the Bears trailing closely in fifth. The Twins had only won two of their last ten games, while the Bears had won eight.

Youm shared personal memories of Jamsil, where he led the Twins to two Korean Series titles, including the 2023 championship. His connection to the stadium dates back to 1991, when he played his first game there. "This place means a lot to me," Youm remarked, vowing to give their best performance.

Doosan Bears manager Kim Won-hyong, a former star pitcher, recalled his favorite memory as the Bears' pitching coach in 2019 when they clinched first place and won the Korean Series. He acknowledged the significance of Wednesday's game and expressed the need to remain composed.

The evening featured ceremonial first pitches by Twins legends Lee Byung-kyu and Park Yong-taik, who both spent their careers with the team. Lee, now a minor league manager, expressed gratitude for the new stadium, while Park, a television analyst, reminisced about fulfilling his dream of playing at Jamsil.

The Bears will conclude their home games next Monday against the Lotte Giants.
