Seoul: Subway and bus services in Seoul will be extended to run until 1 a.m. during the last two days of the upcoming Lunar New Year holiday, the Seoul city government announced. Throughout the holiday period, which spans February 16-18, a network of 72 emergency medical facilities will operate non-stop and approximately 2,600 hospitals and pharmacies will be open daily, as part of the city's comprehensive holiday measures.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the three-day Lunar New Year holiday will effectively be a five-day break for many, due to the preceding weekend. This time is traditionally used by Koreans to travel back to their hometowns, spend time with family, and honor their ancestors.

In an effort to accommodate increased travel, trains on Seoul Metro-operated sections of Subway Lines 1-8, Line 9, Ui-Sinseol Line, and Sillim Line will be operated an additional 128 times on February 17-18, ensuring the last trains reach their final stops by 1 a.m. City bus schedules are also being adjusted to ensure they pass through five major train stations, including Seoul Station, and three significant bus terminals at the same late hour.

Moreover, the city plans to increase the number of express and intercity buses departing from Seoul by 20 percent between February 13-18, aiming to transport an additional 21,000 passengers each day.

In terms of healthcare services, the Seoul city government has stated that 51 emergency medical institutions and 21 hospitals with emergency rooms will maintain 24-hour operations throughout the holiday, providing necessary medical support to residents and visitors alike.
