Seoul: Science Minister Bae Kyung-hoon on Thursday pledged to promote artificial intelligence (AI)-led innovation across key industries to support the country's economic growth.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Bae announced the government's plans during a breakfast meeting with the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) in Seoul. He emphasized that this year has been pivotal in establishing South Korea as a global AI powerhouse by expanding AI infrastructure, technology cooperation, and securing investment from international tech companies.

The minister outlined the government's ambition to develop world-class AI models and technologies. These advancements are intended to be integrated into key sectors such as shipbuilding, defense, biotechnology, and culture, with the aim of achieving a potential growth rate of 3 percent.

The meeting was attended by approximately 200 representatives from major companies, including Samsung Electronics, SK Group, HS Hyosung, Hyundai Motor Group, and LG Group, as reported by the KCCI.
