Seoul: South Korea started removing loudspeakers for propaganda broadcasts installed along the border with North Korea on Monday, the defense ministry said. The ministry stated that the move is part of "practical measures" to ease inter-Korean tensions without affecting the military's readiness posture.

According to Yonhap News Agency, in June, President Lee Jae Myung ordered the suspension of loudspeaker broadcasts toward the North to reduce tensions and rebuild trust. The decision to dismantle the equipment is seen as a step towards improving relations between the two Koreas, which have been strained for years due to various political and military issues.

The loudspeakers, which have been used to broadcast messages and propaganda across the border, have long been a point of contention between the two nations. The removal of these devices is expected to contribute to a more peaceful atmosphere in the region, although the defense ministry emphasized that South Korea's military readiness remains intact.
