Pyongyang: Russia's ruling United Russia party has expressed "firm support" for North Korea's measures to enhance its defense capabilities, according to a joint statement with North Korea's ruling party. This announcement was reported by the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).
According to Yonhap News Agency, the joint statement was signed by Ri Hi-yong, the secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, and Vladimir Yakushev, the secretary-general of United Russia. Both parties agreed that the increasing political and military tensions on the Eurasian continent and globally are directly tied to the aggressive politics of the West aimed at achieving overall hegemonism.
The statement from United Russia conveyed robust support for the Democratic People's Republic of Korea's leadership measures to strengthen its defense capabilities, though it did not specify the exact measures. However, the acknowledgment appears to reference North Korea's nuclear weapons development initiatives.
Furthermore, the statement highlighted a shared consensus between the parties on a common goal to jointly resist forces disrupting peace and stability in Northeast Asia, including the Korean Peninsula. It also addressed the revival of fascism, Nazi ideologies, and persistent neocolonialist actions by the West.
Additionally, the North Korean party expressed full support for Russia's special military operations, while the Russian party expressed gratitude for North Korea's dispatch of troops to support Russia's efforts in the conflict against Ukraine.
The joint statement was adopted after discussions in Pyongyang between Dmitry Medvedev, deputy chairman of Russia's Security Council, and Jo Yong-won, secretary of the North Korean party. Medvedev and Yakushev traveled to Pyongyang to participate in the upcoming celebrations marking the 80th anniversary of the establishment of the North Korean party.
