Ex-Teammates Lee Sung-yong and Park Jin-man Set to Face Off in KBO Postseason as Managers

Incheon: SSG Landers manager Lee Sung-yong and Samsung Lions manager Park Jin-man announced their intent to set aside their long-standing friendship as they prepare for a postseason series in the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO). The series marks the first competitive face-off between the two as managers.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the Landers and the Lions will compete in the best-of-five first round of the KBO postseason. The series will commence on Thursday at Incheon SSG Landers Field, located approximately 30 kilometers west of Seoul. This matchup is particularly significant as Lee and Park were teammates with the Hyundai Unicorns from 1996 to 2004. During their time with the Unicorns, Lee, being the senior by five years, mentored Park, who had just joined the team straight out of high school.

Their camaraderie extended beyond the field, with Lee playing a pivotal role in Park's personal life by introducing him to his future wife. Reflecting on their shared history, Lee expressed fondness for their time as teammates, noting the memories that resurface as they prepare to meet as opposing managers in this crucial postseason.

Park acknowledged Lee's influence on his development into one of the KBO's top shortstops and expressed deep admiration for him. Recalling his early days in professional baseball, Park credited Lee with guiding him through the complexities of the sport and forming enduring memories.

Despite their history, Park emphasized his commitment to the upcoming series, stating his determination to overcome Lee's team. "I have to check my personal feelings at the door," Park stated, underscoring his focus on the strategic challenge ahead.
