Seoul: A pro-Pyongyang newspaper on Thursday highlighted the omission of North Korean issues from a recent security strategy roadmap released by the Donald Trump administration, labeling it as the "most notable" aspect.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the Japan-based Choson Sinbo, in its Thursday editorial, remarked on the absence of any mention of North Korea in the National Security Strategy (NSS) released in early December. This omission marks a significant departure from previous editions of the strategy, which typically included references to North Korea and its nuclear issues. The editorial suggests that this could indicate a shift in the U.S. approach under the Trump administration, raising concerns in Seoul about the potential deprioritization of the issue.

The newspaper posited that the U.S. might have refrained from mentioning North Korea to avoid acknowledging a failure in its policy to denuclearize the Korean Peninsula. The Choson Sinbo, run by a Korean organization in Japan sympathetic to North Korea, is widely regarded as reflecting the regime's official stance.

This editorial marks the paper's second response to the NSS, although North Korea's state media has yet to comment. In a previous article last Friday, the Choson Sinbo accused the NSS of portraying a U.S. transition from a "world police" role to an "isolationist" stance, describing it as a move towards a "fortress America."

Furthermore, the newspaper criticized the NSS for lacking substantial international security analysis and focusing on a U.S.-first policy, which it deemed "self-contradictory" and "factually distorting." It also challenged the portrayal of Trump as a "peacemaker," calling this depiction "too exaggerated."
