Seoul:Police have announced they will take firm action against threats directed at actor Yoo Hae-jin, following protests outside his home regarding alleged historical inaccuracies in his film "The Assassin(s)."
According to Yonhap News Agency, Ko Beom-seok, head of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, made this announcement during a press briefing. This came a day after Culture Minister Chae Hwi-young requested the police to enhance safety measures for those involved in the film and to take strong actions.
On Sunday, conservative civic groups protested outside Yoo's home in northern Seoul, criticizing the film for suggesting that the late former President Park Chung-hee was involved in the 1974 assassination of his wife Yuk Yeong-su.
Ko stated that if they determine a threat to Yoo's safety exists, they will implement additional security measures, such as increasing patrols or providing personal protection.
Earlier on Tuesday, a civic group held a rally in central Seoul, urging companies to cancel advertising contracts with Yoo. Meanwhile, another group of protesters gathered outside Hive Media Corp., demanding an apology from the production company to the public and Park's family for the film's content.
