SEOUL: North Korea jammed GPS signals for a fifth consecutive day on Tuesday, as reported by South Korea's military. This series of jamming incidents is believed to be associated with North Korea's own training exercises against drones. According to Yonhap News Agency, following a series of jamming attacks conducted by North Korea near the northwestern border islands between May 29 and June 2, the North has recently resumed similar activities. The South's Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) have observed these developments closely. JCS spokesperson Col. Lee Sung-jun, addressing a regular press briefing, stated that the GPS signal jamming occurred in specific areas, particularly in the western border islands. These incidents involved weak signals, primarily detected during the early hours. The recent jamming activities differ from earlier attacks this year, which involved stronger signals and appeared to target South Korea. Lee suggested that the current jamming is likely linked to North Korea's military training focused on countering drones. The JCS had previously noted on Saturday that North Korea conducted GPS jamming for a second consecutive day. They called for an immediate cessation of these provocations and warned that North Korea would be held accountable for its actions.
