Seoul: KT SAT Co., the satellite service arm of South Korea's telecom giant KT Corp., announced a significant milestone as it successfully launched its geostationary satellite, Koreasat-6A, into orbit. The satellite was launched aboard SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket from a space launch complex in Florida at around 12:22 p.m. Monday (U.S. time), as confirmed by company officials. The Koreasat-6A is set to commence its services next year, catering to the government, military, and broadcasting stations, following an in-orbit test phase. According to Yonhap News Agency, the launch marks the first time in seven years that KT SAT has sent a satellite into space, with their previous launches being Koreasat 5A and Koreasat 7 in 2017. An image provided by KT SAT shows the Koreasat-6A being launched into space on November 11, 2024 (U.S. time), demonstrating the successful deployment of the satellite. The newly launched Koreasat-6A will provide enhanced location information across South Korea, leveraging the Korea Augmentat ion Satellite System. It is set to replace the existing Koreasat 6 satellite, which is nearing the end of its 15-year design life in 2025. The satellite is equipped with KT SAT's proprietary satellite control system, the Koreasat Monitoring Operation System, which includes a big data analysis function, enabling advanced satellite management. KT SAT CEO Seo Young-soo emphasized the company's strategic vision, stating, "With access to multi orbit, KT SAT will bolster its competitiveness in the geostationary orbit satellite service market, along with its capabilities in the low-orbit satellite service, to lead the domestic satellite industry."
