Lee’s Office Dismisses Korea Forest Service Chief Over ‘Unlawful’ Act

Seoul: President Lee Jae Myung has dismissed Kim In-ho, the minister of the Korea Forest Service, after he was discovered to have committed an unlawful act, according to a statement from Lee's office. The announcement did not provide specific details about the nature of the violation, but emphasized that any legal violations by high-ranking officials will be met with stern action.

According to Yonhap News Agency, police have confirmed that Kim has been booked on charges of driving under the influence. The incident allegedly occurred at an intersection in the Bundang district of Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province, where Kim reportedly ignored traffic signals and collided with a bus and a car. The event took place around 10:50 p.m. on Monday, and although no injuries were reported, Kim's blood alcohol concentration reached a level that warrants a license suspension.

The police have stated their intention to investigate the details of the incident and are coordinating the timing to summon Kim for further questioning. Before his appointment as the minister of the Korea Forest Service, Kim served as a professor of environmental studies and was nominated to the position in August after holding the role of vice chair of the ruling Democratic Party's policy committee.
