Seoul: The SSG Landers announced the signing of Mitch White, a half-Korean former major league pitcher, marking his arrival in South Korea, the birthplace of his mother, to further his professional baseball career. According to Yonhap News Agency, White has agreed to a one-year contract valued at US$1 million, which is the maximum allowable for first-year foreign players in the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO). The 29-year-old right-handed pitcher boasts experience from 71 major league games, including 22 starts, with a 4-12 record and a 5.25 ERA accumulated over 185 innings. White began his major league journey when he was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the second round of the 2016 draft, making his debut in 2020. Throughout his career, he has also played for the Toronto Blue Jays, the San Francisco Giants, and the Milwaukee Brewers. His Triple-A career stats include a 13-12 record with a 4.79 ERA in 64 appearances, comprising 42 starts, and 257 strikeouts in 225 2/3 innings. Baseball Savant repor ts that in 2024, White utilized a mix of pitches, including a four-seam fastball, sweeper, sinker, curveball, and slider in the majors. His fastball averaged 93.9 miles per hour, potentially making him the hardest-throwing starter in the KBO if he maintains this velocity in 2025. Born in San Jose, California, to a Korean mother and an American father, White expressed his enthusiasm in a statement released by the Landers.
