Andong: Rene Marie Albert Dupont, a French missionary bishop renowned for his extensive pastoral work in rural South Korea, has died at the age of 95. He succumbed to a cerebral infarction on Thursday, as confirmed by officials.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Bishop Dupont had been under medical care at a hospital in Andong, located approximately 190 kilometers southeast of Seoul in North Gyeongsang Province. His hospitalization followed emergency surgery earlier this week due to the cerebral infarction.
Bishop Dupont's journey in South Korea began shortly after the conclusion of the Korean War in 1953. Over the span of more than 70 years, he committed himself to improving the lives of rural communities through his unwavering dedication to his pastoral mission.
