Fire at Ulsan Chemical Plant Triggers Mass Evacuation

Ulsan:A fire erupted at a chemical manufacturing company in the southeastern city of Ulsan on Wednesday, necessitating the evacuation of around 7,000 nearby workers, according to officials.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the fire started at 941 a.m., leading fire authorities to deploy approximately 200 personnel and three helicopters to tackle the blaze. All 16 workers at the chemical site were evacuated safely, with no casualties reported.

The fire is suspected to have started from an outdoor storage tank holding 8,000 liters of toluene, a highly flammable substance. The incident also affected the operations of S-OIL's Shaheen petrochemical project, prompting a partial suspension and the evacuation of about 7,000 workers to safe areas.

Both police and fire authorities intend to conduct a thorough investigation to determine the precise cause of the fire. In response to the incident, Interior Minister Yun Ho-jung instructed the mobilization of all available resources to extinguish the fire and ensure no one is unaccounted for.
