Daegu: The Hanwha Eagles reached the brink of their first Korean Series appearance in 19 years after defeating the Samsung Lions 5-4 on the road.

According to Yonhap News Agency, cleanup hitter Roh Si-hwan hit a decisive two-run homer in the fifth inning, while Moon Dong-ju, who transitioned from a starter to a reliever, pitched four scoreless innings to secure a relief win at Daegu Samsung Lions Park. The Eagles now hold a 2-1 lead in the best-of-five Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) postseason series.

The Eagles have the opportunity to eliminate the Lions in Game 4, scheduled for a 6:30 p.m. start on Wednesday in Daegu. The victor of this series will progress to the Korean Series to face the LG Twins.

The Eagles last competed in the Korean Series in 2006, where they were defeated by the Lions. Their only championship victory occurred in 1999.

The game remained scoreless for the first three innings, with both starting pitchers, Ariel Jurado for the Lions and Ryu Hyun-jin for the Eagles, managing to navigate through a crowd of 23,680 fans.

The Eagles broke the deadlock with two runs in the top of the fourth inning. Ha Ju-suk's two-out double drove in Chae Eun-seong, who had drawn a walk and advanced to second base when Jurado's changeup bounced in the dirt.

Lee Do-yun followed up with a single through the right side, allowing Ha to score and giving the Eagles a 2-0 lead.

However, the Lions quickly erased the deficit in the bottom of the fourth inning with two home runs. An infield single and a walk put two runners on base, setting the stage for Kim Young-woong to hit a three-run homer on the first pitch from Ryu.

Kim Tae-hoon added to the Lions' lead with a solo home run to right field, giving them a 4-2 advantage.
