Seoul: President Yoon Suk Yeol's legal defense team took decisive action on Monday by filing complaints with the prosecution against the head of the state anti-corruption agency and ten other officials. This move comes in response to last week's attempt to execute a warrant for the detention of the impeached president.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO) faced a setback last Friday when their attempt to carry out Yoon's detention warrant was thwarted after a prolonged standoff with security staff at the presidential residence in central Seoul. The legal team representing Yoon has accused the CIO of illegally executing warrants to detain the president and search his residence, submitting these complaints to the Seoul Central District Prosecutors Office.
The legal team further argued that the CIO exceeded its authority by mobilizing police officials for this attempt. In addition to the complaints against Oh Dong-woon, the head of the CIO, the team has also filed against acting National Police Agency Commissioner-General Lee Ho-young and acting Defense Minister Kim Seon-ho. They are accused of dereliction of duty and abuse of power for not complying with the presidential security service's request for additional security personnel.
On Sunday, Yoon's lawyers announced their intention to file further complaints against all police and defense ministry personnel involved in the warrant execution. They are currently gathering more information to confirm the details of those involved before proceeding with additional complaints.
