Seoul: South Korea is verifying reports of a possible attack on a South Korean vessel in the Strait of Hormuz, officials said Monday. The move comes amid heightened tensions in the region following recent military actions. According to Yonhap News Agency, the operation "Project Freedom" was launched by Washington with the objective of freeing stranded ships in the narrow waterway. The Strait of Hormuz has faced significant disruptions after Iranian forces effectively blocked it in response to U.S.-Israeli strikes against Iran in late February. "We are verifying information that a South Korean vessel may have been attacked," a government official stated. The foreign ministry has acknowledged receiving such a report. However, they indicated that there have been no confirmed casualties involving South Korean nationals as of yet. The situation remains under close monitoring by South Korean authorities.
