Lima: President Yoon Suk Yeol will engage in a trilateral meeting with U.S. President Joe Biden and Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in Peru this week, according to Yoon's office. The meeting is scheduled to take place on Friday, following Yoon's departure for Lima on Thursday. According to Yonhap News Agency, President Biden initiated the proposal for this meeting with Yoon and Ishiba to build upon the outcomes of the historic Camp David summit held in August 2023. This previous summit established a framework for regular trilateral meetings among the leaders. The Camp David summit was notable for being the first standalone gathering of Yoon, Biden, and former Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, leading to several significant agreements that enhanced cooperation among the nations. The upcoming discussions in Peru are anticipated to address joint responses to regional tensions, particularly in light of North Korea's military involvement with Russia in its conflict against Ukraine. Officials from South Korea and the United States have confirmed that North Korean troops have been deployed to Russia's Kursk region and have engaged in combat against Ukraine.
